We all know that it is possible to change characters in DST, but by some sort of magic-ness, we can also change characters in normal DS, it’s just been hiding right under our noses.
Do you have a long running world, say day 100+, and get tired of using the same character, or just want to switch to another character? This guide will show you how to switch characters in ROG (it has to be in a “normal” world, if you are in Hamlet/Shipwrecked, make your way to the “normal” world)
DISCLAIMER: I am by no means the best player of Don’t Starve, and any of these stratedgies could be better done, this is just the way I like to do it. It will take a very, very long time to switch characters, so I HIGHLY suggest picking which character you want to switch to wisely.
Anyways, the very first step to changing characters in a world is to make a new world. Pick the character you want to switch characters with (i.e. if I was Wolfgang in my main world, and I wanted to switch to WX-78, then I would make a new world and pick WX-78). Now, in the new world you just made, go ahead and beat adventure mode.Whether or not you use cheats here is up to you, personally I’d use it because it is only making a long and tedious proccess a lot shorter. You’ll notice that Maxwell (or whoever was there last i.e. Wilson) is sitting there on the throne, and when you take their place, you will be the one sitting on the throne, and this is very important. Once you beat adventure mode, go back to your main world (for those of you wondering, anything you do in the second world you made does not matter, you can even delete it now).
When you are in your main world, beat adventure mode again. When you beat adventure mode, instead of Maxwell being on the throne, the character you have chosen will be there (using my previous example, WX-78 would be on the throne, and Wolfgang would be the one beating adventure mode). Now once you have finished adventure mode, that is it. You will be the character you wanted to be. It didn’t really cost anything, just a lot of time. That’s the reason you got to plan which character you want to be, as it is very time consuming. If for some reason you want to switch back, your old character will be on the throne, and all you have to do is rescue them to switch back.
