Noct is a good game itself, but due to the bad developments, it hasn’t have updates over a year. So this guide will show you how to create your own server to play the game with your friends.
- The game
- Access to your router’s admin console
- Friends (the hardest prerequisite)
Locate the default gateway for your router. This can be found by opening a command prompt and typing the command “ipconfig” (without the quotes, of course.)
Look for the entry that says “default gateway”. This is usually 192.168.1.1
Open a browser and type in that IP in the search bar. You should be brought to a login page for your router. This is where you will log in to the admin console. If you don’t know what the username or password is, it is usually printed on your physical router.
Now we are getting to the port forwarding. These next few steps can vary depending on what type of router you have. I will be using a Verizon Fios router.
If you are also on a Fios router, your admin page should look a bit like this:
Navigate “port forwarding” link under quick links.
If you have a different router, search up where the port forwarding menu is for your router, and how to use it, since all admin pages for different brands look different.
Now that you are on the port forwarding page, it should look something like this:
Select your computer’s name from the first dropdown box, and “custom ports” on the second. Heres the important part:
Select UDP, and type in port 26500
Add this port to your list of forwarded ports. I’m not sure how this step will work on other routers but search it up I guess lol. Make sure you apply your changes on other routers, Fios does it automatically.
You finished port forwarding! Now to the easiest part.
Starting the server
Go to Noct in your game library, right click it and go to properties. Under the “local files” tab, hit browse local files. This should bring you to the directory Noct is stored in.
In the Noct game directory, right click on an open space, and under new, select text document. A new notepad document should be made. Open it.
When this document is open, copy and paste the following text into it:
Click file > save as… and in the file name, name it whatever you like, but end it in “.bat”. This will save it as a batch file.
For the file type dropdown, select “All Files” and hit save.
The file should save and the icon should look like a little window with a gear.
You can create a shortcut for this if you would like, it makes it a lot easier to run the server from your desktop.
Open Noct FIRST and then run the batch file. You may hear the sound effect that Noct makes at startup again.
After running the batch file, your server should be up! Proceed to the next section for instructions on connecting to the server.
Joining the server
If you are playing on different routers/networks
Open your browser, and search “whats my ip” on google and most other search engines, your IP will be displayed in a box at the top. Send this to whoever you want to play with, and they will enter it into the “server address” box. Leave the server port as the default. Done!
If you are playing on the same router/network
Open a command prompt window, and run the command “ipconfig”. Scroll up until you see an entry in the “IPv4 Address” section. Give this IP to the people you are playing with on the same router, and leave the server port as the default. Done!
If you are the one hosting the server
Type in 127.0.0.1 on the server address box, and leave the server port as the default. Done!
Woohoo! Everybody is playing Noct together now!
The patch notes for 0.19.3B CLAIM that this bug was patched in the most recent update, but it still persists. Maybe we can get a simple fix for it while the major content is being made? Who knows. For now, you will have to restart your game and the server. And thus your progress. sadface.
